Brookside Parent passes away.
Friday, 9/11, Nathan Seramur, a Brookside parent passed away. He
collapsed during soccer practice, which was witnessed by several
Brookside students. Teachers used the following script to share the
news with their students. We also have additional counselors
available today for further support.
"Kids, I need to tell you about something that happened over the
weekend. During a soccer practice one of the coaches of a team
suddenly became very sick. He went to the hospital in an ambulance,
but the doctors couldn't fix him. He died. His daughter is Zoey
Brooks Seramur and she is a fifth grader who goes to school here.
Some other girls on that soccer team go to school here too. They
are all very, very sad.
I bet some of you have played on a team -- baseball, or soccer, or
swimming? Does this make you feel a little worried about the
coaches on your team? Well, you do not need to worry. Your coaches
are healthy. You do not need to worry about this happening to
any of them.
There has been lots of news about the flu making people very sick.
The flu is a terrible cough and cold and fever, but that is not
what happened to Zoey's dad. He did not have the flu. We do not
know what exactly happened. The doctors know, and they will tell
the family. But the rest of us do not know.
As I am telling you and thinking about this news, I feel unhappy.
How many of you have felt very sad because something or someone
special to you has gone away? Well then you know how sad his family
is. We all feel sad or lonely when someone or some thing we love,
goes away. It is OK to be sad for a little while this morning. It
is also okay if you are feeling joyful today, because we all have
happy things that happen in our lives too.
Later on today if you want to, you can make a special card for his
family. That would be a nice way for you to tell the family you
hope they feel better soon."
