¡Hola!

¡Bienvenidos a la pagina de Sra. Richards!

This year I have the privilege of teaching 3 classes of "Español 2" and 2 class of "Español 1"!  Both of these are full high school credit classes and are comparable to the ones taught at Shorewood High School.

In these classes, Spanish grammar, vocabulary, history, culture and customs are taught through life experiences.  It is my belief that students will begin to feel a connection with people of the Hispanic countries and the value of learning a second language if they learn the language in this manner.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through the school's e-mail.

¡Chao!
Sra. Richards

Información para la Clase de Español

Grades:
The following grading standard will be used:
          A         100 - 94%                       C          76 - 73%
          A-         93 - 90%                        C-         72 - 70%
          B+        89 - 87%                        D+        69 - 65%
          B          86 - 83%                        D          64 - 60%
          B-         82 - 80%                        F          59% or below
          C+        79 - 77%

Grades will be comprised of four categories.  They are:
(5%)      Acalorarnos:                These are warm-ups that are given at the
beginning of each class period.  You will still be responsible for
completing the days "acalorarnos" if you are absent.  These can
be found in the notebook, "Los Acalorarnos", on the shelf below the
                   bulletin board marked "La Tarea".
(15%)   Participación:               Participation in class includes such things as
coming prepared to class with all appropriate materials, willingness to
volunteer in class, willingness to try to speak Spanish, and appropriate
behavior during the various class activities.
(40%)   Tarea:                           Generally, some class time will be given you
to work on any assignment (homework), however, if it is not done by
the end of class you must complete it at home for turn in the following
day.  If there is no specific assignment you are expected to spend at
least 15 minutes or more reviewing your daily class notes, grammar
and vocabulary.  Your success in this class will be directly influenced
by your understanding and practice of each day's lesson.  It is VERY
important to keep up with daily work.
(40%)   Exámenes y proyectos:   This category includes any tests and/or
quizzes given during class time as well as projects given as final
                   assessment for a unit.

Late work:
It is expected that you turn in your work ON TIME and COMPLETE.  However, if you are absent it will be YOUR responsibility to find out what class notes and homework you missed while gone.  Late work will be accepted for full credit with an excused
absence.  Other late work will have points deducted proportionate to its lateness.

Expectations:
I thoroughly believe everyone can learn a language and that they can have fun doing
so!  Learning a new language requires students to take risks and to be willing to make
mistakes.  We will build together a community of trust where everyone will treat each
other with the respect and tolerance every learner deserves and where everyone will feel comfortable taking risks.

Expectations regarding technology:
This year we have the privilege of having a laptop available to every student to use during the class period for various learning activities.  It is exactly that - A PRIVILEGE
....NOT a RIGHT!!!  Therefore, it is expected that you will use it only for the assigned
class work while practicing appropriate computer care.

Requirements for entrance to the next level of Spanish:
Typically, a student who has taken and successfully completed Spanish 1 or 2 should plan on taking the next level of Spanish.  Successful completion of any World Language class in Shoreline is a composite of yearlong grades, teacher recommendation, the student's study skills and year end assessments.
