Mr. Monahan is currently on a temporary
leave. This leave was requested by Mr. Monahan due to family
medical and childcare issues. Mr. Scott is his substitute while on
leave. Mr. Monahan will still be at school in room L-8 on Tuesday
afternoons to run Chess Club and will also go ahead as planned with
the trip to New York and Washington D.C. with the 100 eighth
graders and parents in the spring of 2008.
Mr. Monahan is one of the senior teachers at Einstein having
been on the staff for 16 years. His wife is also a teacher and has
taught for many years at both Mercer Island High School and Bothell
High School. He is the proud father of three sons; a one year old,
a four year old and a six year old.
Mr. Monahan also is the Girl's
Cross Country Coach as well as the Chess Club and the Tennis
Club Coach.
Mr. Monahan enjoys travel and time with his family. He has spent
a year and a half in Europe, North Africa, Central Asia, the former
Soviet Union and the Middle East. He has also been to all 50
states, Australia, New Zealand and Central America. He also enjoys
leading a group of local teenagers and parents on a tour of New
York and Washington D.C. each year. He is looking forward to the
next tour scheduled for April, 2008.
Mr. Monahan plays the guitar and likes to go scuba diving,
parachuting and mountain climbing but does not get the chance much
now with a family. He also is a collector of historical newspapers,
classical antiquities and ancient coins.
Mr. Monahan has been teaching at Einstein since 1992. He has
taught mathematics for the first few years but has been teaching
eighth grade U.S. History for most of his time at Einstein. He has
switched his schedule to part-time due to childcare needs. This
resulted in a change to his teaching assignment from U.S. History
to Technology and 7th Grade Social Studies last year, but he has
returned to teaching 8th grade U.S. History for the 2007/2008
school year.
