Welcome to the beginning of fantastic school year at Highland
Terrace!
My name is Alexis McClure and it
is my great joy to be teaching all-day kindergarten this
year!
I am eager and excited to work with you and your child. This is my
second year of teaching kindergarten but my first year at Highland
Terrace Elementary. I am new too- so we will be figuring things out
together! Before joining the Highland Terrace team, I taught two
half-day kindergarten classes at Whittier Elementary in Ballard
last year and also spent a year substituting in Seattle Schools. I
grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to the Northwest to
attend Seattle Pacific University. I fell in love with
Seattle and convinced Patrick (now my hubby) to move up here.
We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary and are enjoying
being a family of teachers!
My priority this year is to create
a positive classroom environment where the students are challenged
daily and feel safe to take risks in their personal and academic
growth. I have high classroom and academic expectation, which will
be clearly stated to you and your students throughout the school
year. I ask students to show respect for teachers, peers, parents,
and themselves. At Curriculum Night, I will describe my classroom
procedures, discipline policy, and math/literacy/science
curriculums. It is important that you attend and I look forward to
sharing all of this information with you that evening.
This is going to be a very special year and I look forward to
partnering with the other kindergarten classes class for literacy
and many other activities. Your child will make many new friends
and participate in lots of exciting activities!
