Welcome to the Highland Terrace Music
Program!
Barbara Dreier, HT music
specialist
The 2009-10
school year marks my third year at Highland Terrace and my
thirteenth year in the Shoreline School District. Prior to that, I
held general music and choral directing positions in the Issaquah
and Tacoma school districts as well as a K-8 school in the Seattle
Archdiocese. I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal
Performance with a minor in Theater Performance from the University
of Idaho, and my undergraduate work included study at Indiana
University, Michigan State and the Aspen Music School in Colorado.
I am an AGMA member (union for professional singers and dancers)
and I have both sung and acted professionally. I last sang
with the Seattle Opera chorus in the 2003 production of
NORMA.
I fell in love with teaching through summer employment as a music
and drama director at a Vermont state girls camp where I taught
students aged 8-16 and directed them in a play, a musical, and
improvisational theater. That summer was so rewarding I
returned to the University of Idaho to complete my work for a
teaching credential while I taught private voice and voice class
for actors as an adjunct faculty member. In Shoreline, I have been on the teaching staff at
Parkwood, Ridgecrest, Sunset and the Shoreline Children's Center
before coming here to Highland Terrace.
In my free time I travel as much as possible, ride my electric
scooter around Magnolia and Discovery Park, and annoy my two
Maine-coon kitties Sam and Andy.
