Welcome to Highland Terrace Elementary!
As the speech/language pathologist (SLP) at Highland Terrace
Elementary, I work with children from preschool age through 6th
grade in the area of communication. I consult with parents
and teachers, complete evaluations and provide services to children
with identified communication needs. These areas may include
speech sound production, understanding presented information,
verbal expression, fluency skills and voice disorders. When needed,
I develop verbal and non-verbal methods for children to communicate
their needs in the classroom.
Professionally I have worked in several schools in the Shoreline
School District including Briarcrest, North City, Ridgecrest,
Sunset, Syre, Einstein, Shorecrest and Shorewood. I received
my Bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in
Greeley and my Master's degree from the University of
Washington. Prior to working in the public schools, I also
worked in a rehabilitation center in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have
attended workshops in TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren) sponsored by the University
of North Carolina in Charlotte and Augmentative and Alternative
Communication (AAC) conferences.
With the support of the Shoreline Foundation all classrooms at
Highland Terrace had the opportunity to participate in mini
workshops from adults using AAC systems. The students were
curous and interested in the various communication systems
used. This year we plan to have follow-up workshops to
address diversity with Dr. Rytter and YADA.
Personally I am married and have two children who attended school
at Highland Terrace. My son recently graduated from Shorewood
and will be attending school at the University of Washington.
My daughter is currently attending school at Shorewood. As a
family we have been very happy to be part of this Shoreline
community.
I am glad to be part of this wonderful Highland Terrace community
because everyone is committed in supporting the whole child.
Please feel free to contact me via email, phone or in person if you
have any questions related to your child's communication skills.
