"To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives
a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared
experience and the fruits of many inquiries." -A. C. Grayling
I have spent much of my life flying through the pages of books and
encouraging children to join me on the flight. That ride has taken
me from classrooms of eager kindergarten beginning readers to
classrooms of inquisitive sixth grade researchers. For the past
twelve years at Highland Terrace, I have had the privilege of
teaching students the joys of reading. My classroom is filled with
wonderful materials provided by our district's Title 1/LAP funds.
Computer programs, reading games, and engaging leveled books
capture the interest of my students and provide them with
opportunities for reading success. It is my goal for every student
not only to read at grade level but also to discover the thrill of
flight through the pages of a book.
