WELCOME
Welcome to first and second grade at Highland Terrace! We strive to
provide exciting academic challenges with personal and social
growth for your child. A safe, caring, learning enviornment for all
is emphasized in the primary grades.
In reading, children focus on phonics skills, comprehension
strategies and fluency. Students expand their writing skills
through work with forms of writing, as well as grammar,
punctuation, and spelling. Math concepts are introduced and
practiced through topics emphasizing problem solving strategies and
skill development. The areas of science, social studies, art,
health, and technology continue to highlight independent work
habits and cooperative learning.
We look forward to a year that is full of opportunities to
build upon kindergarten and first grade experiences. Your
involvement in your child's education here at Highland Terrace is
