WELCOME
Welcome to second grade at Highland Terrace! This is a year of
academic challenge, as well as personal and social growth for your
child. In reading, children focus on comprehension strategies and
fluency. Second graders expand their writing skills through work
with forms of writing, as well as grammar, punctuation, and
spelling. Math concepts are introduced and practiced through topics
emphasizing problem solving strategies and skill development. The
areas of science, social studies, art, health, and technology
continue to highlight independent work habits and cooperative
learning.
Second grade is an exciting year, full of opportunities to build
upon kindergarten and first grade experiences. I welcome your
involvement in your child's education here at Highland Terrace. As
Margaret Mead said, " A small group of committed people can make a
difference and change the world."
