Welcome to Room 5!
I am so
excited to be teaching third grade at
Highland Terrace again this year. Third grade is a year filled with
challenges and new discoveries. Students will find that they
are the "models" for younger students in their primary hallway,
while at the same time they begin the transition to the
intermediate grades. We will work to be self-managers with
our school behavior, our classroom assignments, and our
homework. We will focus on being part of a community of
learners, and how to give each other the kindness and respect we
would like to receive.
Here is a little bit about me:
* BA from Seattle Pacific University
* M.Ed. from Seattle Pacific University in Reading/Language
Arts
* Nine years teaching Kindergarten
* Eight years teaching First Grade
* Taught a 2nd/3rd combination class
* 3 years teaching Third Grade
* Participant and Facilitator of the professional development grant
from the National Science Foundation "Developing Mathematical
Ideas" for eight years. I learned so much about myself as a
math learner, and how to prepare students to be "mathematically
powerful".
* Last year I was a participant in the Puget Sound Writing
Project. This experience provided invaluable growth for me as
a writer and a Teacher of writing.
*This year I am a member of the Mathematics Advisory Team K-12 for
the Shoreline School District. I am honored and excited to be
a contributing member of such important work.
* I have two children; Joel, 10th grade and Lauren, 5th grade
* My family enjoys camping, water-skiing, swimming, reading,
biking, hiking, snow-skiing, and ice skating.
I believe it is my job to support my learners by building
relationships with their families and those who care for them.
Please contact me at any time. You can reach me by phone

It's going to be an exciting year!
