I grew up in
Magnolia and attended Queen Anne High School graduating in 1981. I
played baseball, golf and basketball in high school and am to this
day a real sports nut. I went on to spend eight years at the
University of Washington studying math and teaching. I earned my BA
in 1989 and immediately started teaching at Sunset after student
teaching with Ruth Nielsen, one of our great sixth grade teachers.
In 1997 I earned a Master’s Degree in Education Technology
from City University. After 18 wonderful years at Sunset my beloved
school closed in June 2007. I really enjoyed my first two years at
Highland Terrace and am looking forward to another one this
year.
As a boy I was very active in Boy Scouts and earned the Eagle Scout
Award. Scouting requires boys to become leaders and it was here
that I found my calling to become a teacher. Just to make sure, I
also spent several years coaching boy’s and girl’s
basketball and baseball while in college. I am still active in my
troop 85 as an assistant scoutmaster. This summer I took our older
scouts on a week long canoeing trip up on Ross Lake in the North
Cascades National Park.
I spent the summer vacationing with my family in Oregon at our
family reunion in Hopewell, Oregon. I also went on a week long
cruise to Alaska with my family and my three younger brothers and
their families and my mom and step dad. We had a great time eating
soft icecream on the pool deck!
At Highland Terrace I am the advisor for Safety Patrol and Math
Olympiad.
