Kellogg's Chef School I and II

Chef School I and II are each one semester classes. Students work together in kitchen groups to prepare a variety of recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts. Throughout the term students eat the food they have created. Some favorite units include Cookies, Quick Breads, Yeast Breads, and Pies. Students will have cooking assignments for home as well.Students learn valuable workplace skills that would be used and expected in any job setting, such as decision making, cooperation, and teamwork.Kitchen Safety and Food Handling Safety are taught and expected. Food Science Unit provides students with visual examples of bacteria growth when hands are not clean and food is not stored, cooked, or handled safely.
There is also an emphasis on healthy food choices. During the Nutrition Unit, students track and analyze their own eating habits. They complete a nutrition web search, too. Many of them start lifetime changes in their daily food choices.
