Food Science Unit provides students with visual examples of bacteria growth when hands are not clean and food is not stored, cooked, or handled safely. Throughout the term students eat the food they have created from classroom recipes. Some favorite units include Cookies, Quick Breads, Yeast Breads, and Pies. Students will have cooking assignments for home as well. There is an emphasis on healthy food choices. During the Nutrition Unit, students track their own eating habits. Many of them start lifetime changes in their eating habits. Check out the Food Pyramid on mypyramid.gov. Updates for Kellogg will be located on the class ical. Shorecrest High School Child Development Child Development students, please click on Announcement tab for Playschool Groups and reminders. Click on Events for class and Playschool dates. Shorecrest Child Development offers two parts to the class - the classroom instruction and the Playschool lab with 3-5 year olds. In class, students learn how humans develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually from conception to age 5. They also research topics that impact that development. Other possible themes in class include parenting, discipline, informed healthy choices, strengthening of families and relationships, and exploring careers working with children. In the onsite Playschool, students closely interact with children through art projects, dance, music, literature, sensory table, stretching routines, and of course, snack time!
