August 2012

Dear Kellogg Families,

Welcome to Kellogg Middle School and to the 2012-2013 school year! I invite each of you to join us in working together to make these two years of middle school productive, positive, and rich in learning opportunities. It is our shared goal to prepare our students for high school and beyond and to open doors for all of our kids.

It is my pleasure to introduce to you our new administrative and office team. Douglas Shook is joining us as our new Assistant Principal. Mr. Shook has been an assistant principal at two K-8 schools for St. Lucie County Schools in Florida for the past five years. Previously, he taught high school and middle school science in St. Lucie Schools and served as middle school athletic director.  Tina Marier is stepping into the role of Registrar. She served Kellogg in the library for the last several years and is now joining our office team. Shannon Law will be our Attendance/Athletics Secretary. Shannon is a Kellogg and Shorecrest graduate who has most recently been managing her own business as a massage therapist. I am certain you will find this team to be a competent, helpful, and welcoming crew that is committed to serving your student and family. You will still find many familiar and friendly faces at Kellogg as well! The heart of Kellogg is firmly centered in the dedicated middle school staff you will encounter, the committed Shoreline families we work with, and the talent of our middle school students.

Pull out those calendars and start marking Kellogg events! Middle School is a time to stay present, engaged, and connected. These two years will shape your child’s secondary school career and our middle schoolers really do appreciate the attention and support of caring adults.

I sincerely look forward to meeting your family and working with your student. If you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please do not hesitate to be in touch. I challenge and invite each of you to:

  • Stay involved and be present.
  • Engage the creativity and the capability of your middle schooler.
  • If you are a returning family, to reach out and welcome a new family.
  • Keep a sense of humor!
  • Remember we are strongest when we work together.

Let’s have a great year!
