Reading Award Programs

- Parkwood 4th & 5th Graders will compete this year in King County Library's Global Reading Challenge. Two teams will read the 10 books & write Q & A's for practice sessions. The in-school challenge will take place in February TBA. The district challege between Parkwood, Highland Terrace, Syre, Lake Forest Park, Ridgecrest & Merdian Park will take place Thursday, Feb. 25. - Gr. 4 - 6 students who read 2 or more of these titles vote on this award in the end of March each year. At Parkwood students may read until the final book fair of the year when those who have read 6 or more books from the YRCA & Sasquatch nominees are invited in for a grand prize grade level drawing. Winners earn shopping certificates to the book fair--1st place $15, 2nd place $10. Students who read 10 or more titles earn a free paperback; those who read all 18 earn 2 free paperbacks. Consolation prizes go to those who don't win the grand prize drawing.

- Parkwood K-3 students vote on this award in late March each year. Teachers read the 20 nominated titles to their classes from January through March. Voting takes place the last week of March.
