Dear Room 1 Families,

I would like to officially welcome you to the new school year at Parkwood Elementary School!  I have truly enjoyed getting to know your child over these first few days of school and I look forward to spending this school year working with him/her.  We are off to a successful start and I am extremely excited about what is planned and what we will accomplish together during this academic year!

My priority this year is creating a student-centered learning environment that meets the needs of all students within my classroom.  Our Classroom Community is made up of many unique individuals, each with his or her own learning styles, interests, history, and goals.  Our success begins with the assurance that our classroom will be a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

My teaching philosophy is to make the learning experience fun, yet challenging so students are excited about learning.  I see myself as a facilitator to your child.  This allows students the opportunity to be more involved in their own learning, meeting their own ability levels and interests.

As many of you already know, I have very high expectations for each child within my classroom and will do my best to see that every student succeeds academically.  I believe that one of the best ways to reach this goal is by providing a positive learning environment and encouraging students’ self-esteem.  We have begun this year focusing on friendship.  We will also be implementing a daily VIP (Very Important Person) who will have special privileges on their day, as well as a weekly “Super Kid” giving each child a week to shine!  If students feel good about themselves, they are more likely to set higher goals for themselves, succeeding academically, which is our ultimate goal.

I feel communication is another key component to your child’s continued success this school year.  I really believe that nobody knows your child better than you, so if there is anything that I can do to make your child’s learning experience more successful, I encourage you to contact me through e-mail at: tricia.parks@shorelineschools.org, by calling me at school: (206) 393-1421, or just stopping in to visit!

I know that this will be a very busy, yet exciting school year and I am looking forward to making it the most rewarding year possible for both your child and myself.  I also look forward to meeting and working with you this coming school year!

Sincerely,

Tricia Parks
