Ridgecrest Title 1
Program
At Ridgecrest, the Title/LAP program
helps support K-6 students who are not meeting standards in
reading. We work on learning letter names and the sounds
connected to them, sounding out words using phonics, the smoothness
at which students read (fluency), and comprehending what we
read. We use a program called Linguistic Remedies, which is a
program based on brain research. We are setting a strong
foundation for phonics aquisition by activating our feeling and
language parts of the brain by using mouth pictures. We are
also using repeated reading and Readers Theater to impove fluency,
novels and other books to support comprehension work, and
computerized programs to develop appropriate grade level
skills. In first and second grade, the computer program is
Headsprout. In thrid and fourth grade, we are using Read
Naturally and in fifth and sixth grade, Read 180. These
programs are all paired with small group instruction to improve
reading skills.
