A bit about me: This is my 18th year at Shorecrest. I have taught a number of subjects including: Englihsh 10, English 10 Honors, Advanced Placement English 12, Journalism, Reader's Choice, Speech, American Literature, Senior Connections, and I was also the advisor for the school newspaper for 6 years. I earned my Master's in Education in 1999, and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2008.
I like to read (most English teachers do). This summer I read many gardening, landscaping, and home improvement books since gardening and reading are two of my favorite hobbies.
I also read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Song Yet Sung. I love to talk about books, so let me know what you are reading.
I have two children: a daughter who just graduated from Lake Forest College just north of Chicago, and a son who is a junior at Colorado College. My daughter is an Americore Volunteer working for a non-profit organization in Chicago called the North River Commission. My son just left for his fall semester at Colorado College. If you have any questions about your future college planning, please feel free to ask as I have lots of first hand experience.

In case you are unfamiliar with National Board Certification, here is a brief note about it:
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has 5 Core propositions that influence every aspect of the certification process. They are:
  1. Teachers are committed to students and their learning.
  2. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
  3. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
  4. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.
  5. Teachers are members of learning communities.
