When I read a book I seem to read it with my eyes only,
but now and then I come across a passage, perhaps only a
phrase,
which has meaning for me, and it becomes part of
me. - W. Somerset Maugham (1874 - 1965)
Welcome to my website. This year I will be teaching the
AVID elective, English 9 Honors, Essay Fundamentals and
Shakespeare. In every class I strive to:
- provide multiple ways for students to demonstrate what they
know. Students will write essays, create art projects, and
give presentations.
- encourage students to take risks and challenge themselves every
day. It is only by getting outside our comfort zone and truly
struggling with a task that we grow as writers, thinkers, and
individuals.
- have fun every day that I teach and help students take joy in
reading, thinking, writing, and discussing important ideas and
concepts.
As a teacher I constantly work to improve my teaching and
better the experience that students have in my classroom.
During the 2008-2009 school year I will be fortunate to work in my
English 9 Honors courses with Dara Medearis, a teaching intern from
the University of Washington. I look forward to learning from Ms.
Medearis's new ideas and fresh perspective and mentoring her as she
grows as a teacher. For more information about Ms. Medearis please
read her letter of introduction to families, located in the
documents section of the website.
How to navigate this
site: Documents--Most class handouts
will be located here for you to download, including Academic Plans,
assignment handouts, and rubrics. If you do not find what you
are looking for here, please also check my public folder on the
staff server.
Homework--Scroll down to the appropriate class to
view assignment and due date information. Remember, this
website is designed to act as a safety net, not a replacement for
you keeping track of your own homework. Although I update the
website frequently, I may make a change to an assignment or due
date during class that is not reflected here. If in doubt,
trust what you heard in class or what was written on the agenda on
the board.
Grades--To access grades, enter student last name
and password (5-digit Student ID# plus zero at the end OR 4-digit
Student ID# with two zeroes the end).
Links--Here you will find links to websites we
use for class activities and assignments.
