Shorecrest High School
Laptop Rollout
August,
2008
Follow this link for district information on the laptop rollout. This will include links for on-line payment (when available), and for downloading all laptop forms. Based on staff and parent input received through our annual laptop surveys – as well as other feedback and data – the district has revised its policy regarding the laptop program to better accommodate the diverse preferences for laptop access expressed by stakeholders. Specifically, the new policy is designed to allow families to choose between 1) having student(s) check out a laptop for full 24/7 access with an agreement to all fees and conditions set by the district and/or school, or 2) to use school-housed laptops when teachers determine they are needed for classroom activities, plus agreeing to provide sufficient access to home technology for completion of school assignments. Laptops that are not checked out to students in option 1 will be deployed out to classrooms once we have determined what the remaining numbers are. It is important to note that we will not be checking out individual laptops on an as needed basis; students will either have them for 24/7 checkout, or they will have some level of access through their classrooms. Dates and Times The Shorecrest High School laptop rollout will occur on August 25, 26, 27 and 28 between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 (also 8:30-11:30 on Monday), in the Shorecrest library. Distribution will be according to the first letter of each student’s last name: Monday, August 25 A – An 8:30 - 9:00 Ao - Ba 9:00 - 9:30 Be - Bon 9:30 - 10:00 Boo - Bz 10:00 - 10:30 Ca - Ch 10:30 - 11:00 Cl - Da 11:00 – 11::30 Monday, August 25 De - Dz 1:00 - 1:30 E – Fo 1:30 - 2:00 Fr - Ga 2:00 - 2:30 Ge - Gre 2:30 - 3:00 Hri - Harr 3:00 - 3:30 Hart - Hi 3:30 - 4:00 Tuesday, August 26 Ho – Ji 1:00 - 1:30 Jo - Kh 1:30 - 2:00 Ki - Kz 2:00 - 2:30 La - Le 2:30 - 3:00 Li - Mai 3:00 - 3:30 Mai - Mc 3:30 - 4:00 Wednesday, August 27 Meh - Mon 1:00 - 1:30 Mor - New 1:30 - 2:00 Ngu - Ort 2:00 - 2:30 Os - Pl 2:30 - 3:00 Po - Ri 3:00 - 3:30 Ro - Sap 3:30 - 4:00 Thursday, August 28 Sat - She 1:00 - 1:30 Shi - Sto 1:30 - 2:00 Str - Th 2:00 - 2:30 Ti - Va 2:30 - 3:00 Ve- Wh 3:00 - 3:30 Wi – Z 3:30 - 4:00 Students who are not able to be here during their assigned time-slot may pick up their computers during TAP or lunch once the school year has begun. Laptop distribution is starting before the school year begins simply to reduce the impact of distribution on instructional time; there is no disadvantage to picking up a laptop once school has begun. Students may pick up laptops for themselves and their siblings only. Laptops will not be handed out to anyone under the age of 18 who does not have a carrying case unless a parent is there to accept it. What to bring To receive a laptop you must bring: • A receipt showing you have paid $80 for insurance and $20 for a laptop case if you don’t have one from last year. (Donations of laptop cases by last year’s senior class are welcome!) • A signed copy of the 2008-2009 Addendum to Laptop Agreement • Your picture ID • Your laptop case Payment Payment can be made by cash, check or money order (made out to the Shoreline School District) at the Shorecrest main office between 9:00 and 3:00 pm, starting August 11. We encourage you to get in early before the actual rollout dates and pay your laptop fees, yearbook purchase, ASB card, etc. We cannot accept credit card payments at the office, but you can pay your laptop fees by credit card in the Accounting office at the Shoreline Center, or on-line. Go to our district laptop page for links to the on-line payment portal, and also to download the 2008-2009 Addendum to Laptop Agreement. Scholarship If the insurance cost is an extreme financial hardship for your family, you may apply for one of a very limited number of scholarships or arrange for a monthly payment schedule. We will have a staff member present during laptop distribution to handle scholarship requests and payment plans. New students New students will also get their laptops during TAP or lunch once the school year has begun after first paying fees and filling out and signing the original CLICK-IT laptop agreement form, in addition to the addendum. New laptop use configuration A parental control software application, called SafeEyes, will be installed on all middle school and Echo Lake laptops. The same product will be available for high school students upon parent request, but it is not pre-installed as we ended up removing or decreasing the controls on over half the high school laptops at parent/student request. However, we will again employ settings to disable laptops during very late night hours. Again, as a result of parent and student feedback, the high school settings will be relaxed a little to accommodate students whose jobs or other activities require that they do school work later in the evenings. All high school laptops are now configured to shut down, with no access, from 1:00am – 5:00am, seven days a week. Parents can choose to have these restrictions lifted, which we will do at your request starting the second week of school. Please continue to monitor our website for how we plan to verify parent permission for this process, and also for more information on the Safe Eyes software. |
