Laptop Safety
First of all - never
use the
locker room lockers to store any
valuables!
Laptop
safety
The safest way to guard against theft is to have the laptop in your
possession and visible – if it’s left at school out of
your sight, you increase the likelihood it will be lost or
stolen. If not in use, keep it in your padded case.
When at PE, store the laptop in your school locker, not the locker room
lockers. For athletes traveling to away games or
meets, we encourage you to either leave the laptop in your school
locker, or if possible, arrange for a parent to pick it up from
you. We really do not believe it is safe to bring your laptop
to another school where we do not know what their security
procedures are. Our coaches can let you into the building
when you return from an away contest.
Car storage for laptops,
valuables
Our position is it is never a good idea to leave important
personal belongings in a car, even if locked in the
trunk.
Laptop fines All missing laptop
parts and/or fines from ’06-‘07 must be returned/paid
by November 15, 2007. If not, the laptop and charger set will need
to be returned to the school, and laptop access will then be
restricted to in school use only until the outstanding fine is
paid. Missing parts should be taken to the tech room in the library
and fines must be paid at Ms. Velie’s window. A fine/missing
parts list is posted in the SAC and in the library. If students
have questions, please have them see Crystal or Lynn in the Tech
Room.
Laptop insurance – making sure you know the fine
print This year our laptop agreement addendum features
some important changes that students and parents really need to
bear in mind. For example, coverage for
Burglary/Robbery/Theft applies when the loss involves a break-in,
force, or is otherwise unavoidable despite exercising due
diligence. Leaving the laptop
unattended, failing to secure it per school recommendations,
leaving it in an unlocked car, leaving it on the bus, etc. are NOT
covered under the definitions used by the insurance
provider. These and similar situations are classified
as loss through negligence, and you will be responsible for the
entire repalcement cost of the laptop - $1,300.
Also, the following are not considered to be accidental damage and
are not covered by insurance:
• damage caused by liquid/beverage spills
• excessive scratches/wear to laptop exterior caused by
failure to regularly use the protective case
• intentionally marking, defacing, and/or abusing the
laptop (amusement, anger, frustration, etc.)
• damage caused by tampering with hardware components
(battery housing, RAM, iSight camera, etc.) to alter district
configurations
