"A real
book is not one that we read, but one that reads
us."
-W.H. Auden
Welcome!
This year I teach Debate, Honors English 10, and Essay
Fundamentals.
I also coach Shorecrest's Debate Team and advise the newly formed
Scrabble Club!
Having majored in philosophy as well as English in undergraduate
school, I am an avid fan of reading, discussion, persuasion, logic,
and critical thinking.
On this site you will find an updated list of homework assignments
(simply click the "Homework" link), copies of useful
documents, and links to a few handy sites.
With a strong emphasis on the writing process, English classes this
year will increase students' confidence in writing expository and
persuasive essays, narratives, and poetry. We have some excellent
literature to enjoy and a broad range of ideas to
explore.
Debate—in and out of the classroom—is a lively,
challenging, and enriching experience for all of us.
Through debate, students develop critical thinking and confidence
while developing skills that are highly useful in countless
arenas.
Our Shorecrest Debate Team will be competing at a number of
tournaments this year, and I welcome folks to attend our after
school practice debates!
I sincerely enjoy the community of focused, flexible, and
communicative thinkers at Shorecrest and I am delighted to be
here!
Please feel welcome to contact me.
