Grades updated this past Friday, November 13, on the Dashboard
Students and parents access grades through the Data Dashboard at this website:
http://dashboard.shorelineschools.org/ShorelineStudents

This year staff will be updating their on-line grades at least twice a month.  Look for grades to be updated on the following dates:  November 30, December 18, January 15 and 29, February 26, March 19 and 31, April 16 and 30, May 14 and 28, June 11 and 18.

Official quarter grades coming home November 20
First quarter progress reports will be handed out to all students Friday, November 20, during first period. For students who have D’s and F’s on this quarter report we will also mail a copy home. We guarantee that we will hand them out!  Parents, in the interest of clear communication, we advise you to make sure you communicate to your student that you expect to see the progress report this weekend.  (Bear in mind that these grades are official grades from the end of the quarter, November 6, but because of the combination of the time for grading allotted by contract, and printing, these quarter grades will arrive two weeks after the end of the quarter, and one week after the most recent grade update.)

Shorecrest’s Fall show, "Into the Woods", continues this week
The Shorecrest Drama Department presents “Into the Woods”, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, based on the book by James Lapine.

November 12-14 and 19-21 at 7:30 pm
November 15 and 22 at 2:00 pm

Tickets are available from Nancy Velie at Shorecrest Mon – Fri 7:00 – 3:00, at shorecrestdrama.org, and Third Place Books for $9 or at the door for $10.

About the play:  “Into the Woods” starts with the familiar fairy tales of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel.  These fairy tales are tied together with a new story of the Baker and his wife who are out to reverse a curse on their family by making a bargain with a witch. The play soon discloses what happens after “happily ever after.” This is not your children’s version of a fairy tale!

Students with failing grades at the monthly grade update
As a school we are trying to devote more time and additional support for our students' learning needs, so we are directing them - this is not a choice -  in an intervention that we believe will support their learning, help them complete work, pass classes, and graduate on time.

Any student who is failing a class at each monthly grade check will be required to remain in their second period classrooms for TAP on Mondays and Tuesdays for the month that follows.  When these students are passing all classes at the following monthly grade check, they will then regain normal TAP privileges.

Athletics transportation
http://www.shorelineschools.org/news/release.php?releasesid=873

Last June 22 the school board approved significant changes to transportation for high school athletics, which may have caught parents by surprise.  In order to provide an extra $55,000 in revenue to support the District athletic program, the District raised the participation fee for high school athletics from $60 per sport to $100 per sport.  In addition, the District made changes to athletics transportation practices in order to save approximately $40,000.  These changes include eliminating varsity athletic transportation to and from contests within a 15-mile radius (Edmonds and Mukilteo schools and Jackson High School in Mill Creek). This was agreed upon by all WesCo athletic directors. Also, return transportation was eliminated from sub-varsity high school athletics, with parents and students providing transportation home from contests.

The Shorecrest Site Council is an advisory committee that brings together all involved school stakeholders: administrators, teachers, non-teaching staff, students, and parents. The council focuses on communication, instruction, personalization & engagement, and school climate.  Our goal is to provide long-range guidance and insight in support of Shorecrest High School.  All of our recommendations are based on our current research within the school, the state, and in consideration of broader, national education initiatives. Site Council meets the second Tuesday of every month at 5:15 in the Shorecrest library, and our minutes are posted on the Site Council website following approval. You can link to the Site Council webpage from the school’s main page or from the link provided above.
