CLASS INFO. AND GRADES: Mrs. Pratt has a class website with course descriptions, contact information, assignments and grades for the classes listed below. Grades can be accessed via "Data Dashboard" using http://dashboard.shorelineschools.org/ShorelineStudents . Careers in Education: Careers in Education is a tech-prep* course designed to expose students to careers in education. Students will gain experience and see the preparation and training involved in being a teacher. Students will increase their academic background to better understand past, current and future issues in education. Additionally, classroom studies will focus on theories regarding the learner, effective teaching, the school and professional development. Throughout the year, students will experience the inner workings of the classroom, school and district by conducting interviews, observations and internships. Throughout first semester, students will work in the Shorewood Preschool with four and five year olds to help prepare them for kindergarten. Second semester students will have the opportunity to be placed in an intership with a cooperating teacher at the elementary or middle school level and participate in instructional seminars at the high school. As interns students will perform a variety of duties relating to teaching, including one-on-one tutoring, small group work, lesson planning, grading, supervising, mentoring and teaching. Careers in Ed. is a full year course. Students who complete the full year with a B or better grade can earn up to 5 transferable college credits through Shoreline Community College, Bellevue Community College, Cascadia Community College or Lake WashingtonTechnical College. This class abides by Shorewood's 1:1:1 policy where students are required to submit a minimum of one artifact of excellent work into the student portfolio. Points will be given for completing this task. However, because a major requirement of this class is completing a preprofessional portfolio, some work may be duplicated. Therefore it is left up to each individual student to determine which piece of work is submitted to their Learning portfolio. Child Psychology: is a one-semester course designed to provide students with knowledge of small children through studying the stages of human growth and development, responsibilities of parenting, safety and health issues and positive ways to work with children at varying age levels. Students will get first-hand experience examining developmental patterns of social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth by participating in Shorewood's very own preschool! Once each week students will either observe children learning or help children learn at the various centers provided to encourage development. This course is unique in providing a hands-on, lab environment where students put their knowledge into immediate action.
