Hello Thunderbird Cross Country Athletes!!!

Recruit your friends to come out for Cross Country in the fall when we start our 2017 Season!  The first day of the fall season will be Monday - August 21st, 2017.   Do summer training and recruit your friends to join a fun community of awesome people.

In the fall of 2017 we will be doing all our strides and core/hip work (weather permitting) on the Shorewood fields.  1st practice will be August 21st at 3:15 pm, we'll meet on the softball field.  Before school starts, practices will be at 3:15 pm.  Once school starts, we'll start practice at 3 pm.  Please wear running attire, proper running shoes, and a water bottle.  Please get proper running shoes.  Super Jock and Jill or Road Runner Sports at Greenlake can help you or Run 26 in Mill Creek.

In order to participate in practices, athletes need to turn in all paperwork to the business office.  Paperwork can be found at:  http://schools.shorelineschools.org/shorewood/athleticsathletic-forms/

In order to compete in the 1st meet, athletes need to turn in all paperwork, pay your athletic fee, and attend 10 practices.

Dates to set aside: 

Labor day weekend - Annual Team Retreat to Camp Casey (Fri. Sept. 1st - Sun. Sept. 3rd).  We encourage everybody to come to this retreat, it will cost each athlete $100.  If money is an issue, please come see the coaches, athletic director, or your counselor.

Trip to Portland the weekend of Friday September 29 - 30.  This will only be around 54 athletes.  This trip will cost athletes $130.  If money is an issue, please come see the coaches, athletic director, or your counselor.

We will also have a few Saturday meets throughout the season.  The Saturdays include Sept. 9th, Sept. 16th, Sept. 30th, Oct. 7th, and Oct. 21st.  Varsity post season meets include:  Oct. 28th & Nov. 4th.

Season Recap 2016:

Another Cross Country season has come to end but we have much to celebrate after such an amazing season. 

Sat, Oct 22nd at Lakewood HS on a sunny day (63 degrees) the Boys team placed 3rd in Wesco South 3A to Edmonds-Woodway & Mountlake Terrace.  The Girls team placed 4th in Wesco South 3A to Edmonds-Woodway, Mountlake Terrace, & Shorecrest.  Earning All League Honors were:  2nd Team All Wesco South 3A – Rachel Hansen, Emily Farden, & Reed Adjibly, Wesco South 3A Honorable Mention – Eileen Beres, Brianna McGrath, Ben Heagler, Lucas Kleyn, & Aidan Arslanoglu.

Sat, Oct 29tht at South Whidbey HS on a very rainy, very wet, muddy, soft course the Boys team placed 7th and the Girls team qualifying as a team placing 4th. Qualifying for the State meet were Rachel Hansen (12th), Ellie Shoop (20th), Emily Farden (24th), Brianna McGrath (29th), Eileen Beres (31st), Julia Nelson (45th), Elisha Klco (51st), and on the boys side Devan Kirk (7th).  Top 5 runners score and 6th and 7th runners can displace other team's Top 5 runners.  The addition of the Top 5 places on your team makes the team score.  Also qualifying with the Girls team as alternates: Erin McConnachie & Kimi Hamon

For NW District 1 results:


Both the boys and girls teams finished a wonderful season with a lot of the team returning next fall. The JV competitors completed their wonderful season on Oct. 22nd.  Of the 89 athletes who finished the season on the boys & girls Varsity/JV teams, 14 of 89 are seniors.  10 of 56 boys are seniors. Four of 34 girls are seniors. 

Sat, Nov 5 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco the Girls Team and Devan Kirk competed at the 3A State Championships. Devan finished 43rd out of 164 (now 7 entries per allocation) runners with a time of 16:39.4.  The Girls team placed 15th (347 points – placing listed as overall not just team placers) with Rachel Hansen placing 70th (20:14.3), Emily Farden placing 111th (20:42.7), Eileen Beres placing 119th (20:56.6), Brianna McGrath placing 120th (21:00.0), Ellie Shoop placing 130th (21:15.1), Julia Nelson placing 136th (21:25.4), and Elisha Klco placing 153rd (22:33.8) all out of 162 runners.  Erin McConnachie, Kimi Hamon, Reed Adjibly, and Ben Heagler ran alternate time trials on the course on Friday the 4th

Other highlights from the season include:  The beginning of our season is always a highlight with a final weekend of August team building retreat to Camp Casey on Whidbey Island.  Boys 3rd Place finish and Girls 4th Place finish at Nike Portland Invitational in Portland, OR on Sept 24th with 21 boys & girls athletes earning medals, 41 new Personal Records set with 15 more seasons bests set.  State Outstanding Scholastic Awards to both Boys and Girls teams (Boys Team GPA 3.454 – 8th & Girls Team GPA 3.733).
