What is the role of a school psychologist in a high school? While I work primarily with the special needs population, school psychologists in recent years have expanded their roles to support all students and to provide staff and parents with ideas and resources to support the overall social and emotional development of students. Listed below are examples of some of the things a school psychologist does at Shorewood High School:

*Evaluate students who may evidence difficulties with learning, and/or behavior
*Problem solve with parents, staff, and students to assist students overcome learning barriers
*Consult with parents, students and staff in a variety of mental health areas
*Work with other professionals to design appropriate school programs for students
*Provide documentation of disabilities for transition into the adult world of education and work
*Observe classrooms to support staff in designing barrier free learning environments
*Provide resources and information to support the development of all students

Biographical Data: I was born and raised in the Seattle area. I received a Bachelor of Education Degree from Western Washington University, a Masters of Education Counseling at Seattle University, and an Education Specialist degree from Seattle University.  I have worked as a school psychologist at Shorewood High School since 1995 and have enjoyed the support of parents, staff and students. During my recreation time I enjoy time with my wife Karen, walking our dogs, and hanging out with my grandsons. Having raised two children, I am well aware of the challenges parents and teens have in a complicated world. My office is located in room 406 near the center of the school. I am available to students, staff, and parents between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
