To give you a quick impression of who I am besides a math teacher, I’ve always been a musician, athlete, and craftsy.  Recently I’ve also begun to enjoy gardening.  Family has always been important to me. Those of you from Sunset know my husband, Mark.  He is now at Highland Terrace.  We have two kids.  Sarah is 10 and loves to dance, play with her American Girl doll Marisol, and refine her interior decorating skills.  She is teaching this tomboy about femininity (I purchased my first purse a few years ago).  Chris is 8 and loves to climb tall trees, build things, and play video games.  I'll be helping coach his soccer team this fall.  Go Komodos!

My parents and five older siblings moved to Shoreline in the late 60’s.  I graduated from Shorewood in 1989; though I was actually only at Shorewood for two semesters, the bookends of my high school years.  My dad worked for the Corps of Engineers, and he got the opportunity to work in Germany.  So, for two years I lived in the little village of Queckborn and attended Giessen American HS.  Getting used to “the military” was more of a culture shock than getting used to Germany.  For a few months, following the 1986 bombing of Libya, we even had soldiers armed with machine guns guarding our school.  We eventually moved about 100 miles away to the little town of Nieder Ulm.  I transferred to Wiesbaden American HS, where Priscilla Presley was a student when she met Elvis. I loved living in Europe; but, the time came to go back home. I finished up my senior year right here.  In fact, I think my driver’s ed class was in the very portable that I taught in last year.

The two most difficult years of my life were 7th and 8th grade.  Crazy, confusing, conflicted.  If you’ve been going through some rough times, I hope that this is the year that things get better for you.

Like many kids, I originally wanted to be a rock star when I grew up.  Then, in 10th grade, I started thinking about being a teacher.  My best friend’s mom was my Chemistry teacher and her dad was my math teacher and volleyball coach.  It was a natural fit for me.  I went to the UW and did my student teaching at Einstein in 1994.  Then I taught and coached at a small Christian secondary school in Mountlake Terrace.  In 1999, I temporarily traded my backpack and textbooks in for a diaper bag and Dr. Seuss.  I left my comfort zone of working with teenagers and started teaching the toddlers and pre-K classes at our church.  Three years ago,  I jumped back to where I belong, teaching math here at Shorewood.  This year, I’ll be teaching Geometry for periods 2, 4, and 6.  I am also part of the AVID team.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and helping you grow as an individual.  Let’s have a great year!
