My name is Barb Mills and I have been working as a special education teacher for Shoreline School District since 2001. I graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelors in education, majoring in special education. Throughout my career in the district, I have worked with every age group from age three to twenty one, worked in a variety of settings and with wonderful students who came with unique challenges and strengths that made teaching each one of them a joy. I am currently in my third year of working with the T-Bird Team here at Shorewood High School, a program for high school students who are medically fragile and are preparing for life after school. Students in this program are instructed in their individual goal areas of functional communication, job skills, adaptive (life and recreation) skills, and social skills. Students also go out into the community to generalize their job and life skills in natural settings such as Safeway, Fred Meyer, YMCA, Deseret, Shoreline Recreation Center, Starbucks and Brunswick Majestic Bowling. We also have the exciting opportunity of using the Production Center, a setting at the Shoreline Center that also provides students with opportunities to develop job skills.
