Dear Parents/Guardians;

The spring WASL assessments are quickly approaching.
The Spring 2008 Test Schedule is as follows:
Reading      March 10, 11
Writing         March 12, 13
Math             April 15,16
Science       April  17, 18
Students must be present for all days of testing for a content area in order to receive a score in that area.

The essential features of our schedule for the WASL test period are:

1) Two and a half hours of testing on the specific dates - one week in March
and one in April - 8 total school days
2) 50 minute periods for classes in the morning
3) 55 minutes for the afternoon class - that's when we will do announcements
4) 50 minute lunches
5) 10 minutes between period 1/2 and period 3/4
6) Regular classes will resume every day at 10:30

For the graduating classes of 2008-2012: Students must pass the reading and writing WASL, a state approved alternative to the WASL or an assessment for students in special education.  Students can meet the state’s math requirement by passing the math WASL, a state approved alternative or an assessment for students in special education, OR they can continue to earn math credits until they graduate. However, they must take the math WASL each year as well.  Students who pass the reading, writing and math assessment earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA) or Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA) and a high school diploma.  Students who fulfill the math requirements by earning math credits do not receive a certificate but do earn a diploma.

Seniors and Juniors/Classes of 2008 and 2009: Grade 11 and 12 students who did not meet standard in any of the three areas last spring or summer will be automatically registered to take that portion of the test this spring.  If you have any questions about which subject(s) your student needs to retake, please contact his/her counselor. Please be sure that your student attends school on all days for the given content area.  The next opportunity to retest will be during the summer.

Sophomores/Class of 2010: All grade 10 students are required to take the WASL this spring.  Please be sure that your student is present on all days of testing.  If your student misses any of the tests, their next opportunity to test will be this summer.  If your student took and passed three sections of the WASL last spring, they are expected to take the Science portion this April.

Please contact us with your questions.

Sincerely,
