My Current Books:  I am reading H is for Hawk.
Some of the books I have read recently:Americanah, Fun Home, Hold Still, and The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace. I also read the newspaper everyday :)

About Ms. McFarlane:  I have taught Social Studies at Shorewood since 1991, and love my job (most days)!  I also taught at Einstein Middle School for a year when I first moved to the Seattle area in 1990.   I have taken leave several times, to travel in Asia, work in El Salvador and have babies (My first "baby" will be a sophomore in college this fall).

I attended Mount Holyoke College and received my BA in Anthropology (with a strong emphasis in Political Science) in 1985.  I spent my junior year near Brighton, England, at the University of Sussex (Next summer, I will join friends from my Sussex days in Cornwall!). I received my Master of Arts in Teaching (Social Studies) from Lewis and Clark College in 1988.  I am a National Board Certified Teacher in History/Social Studies as of 2010. I love to learn, and regularly attend and help organize teacher development workshops that help me become a better teacher and make the world a better place (that, at least, is the goal). I traveled around the Pacific Northwest this past summer with my family, enjoying the beauty that nature has to offer us, and visited Maine and Boston to gather with many of my college friends.
