My Current Book:  I am now reading is The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears by Dinaw Mengestu.  It is about the recent immigrant experience, and the "American Dream".  The author is very young, and this was last year's "Seattle Reads" book.

About Ms. McFarlane:  I have taught Social Studies at Shorewood since 1991, and love my job (most days)!  I also taught at Einstein Middle School for a year when I first moved to the Seattle area in 1990.   I have taken leave several times, to travel in Asia, work in El Salvador and have babies.

I teach US History and Government, and the English Language Learner (ELL) Goal Setting class.    I attended Mount Holyoke College and received my BA in Anthropology and Political Science in 1985.  I received my Master of Arts in Teaching (Social Studies) from Lewis and Clark College in 1988.
