The T-Bird Crew is a program
at Shorewood High School for students with severe
disabilities. It is a community-based program where we teach
our students (and the community) how we all can be productive
members of our community.
We also have an awesome peer tutoring program, where other students
at Shorewood can work with our students and earn
credit.
Who is the Teacher?
My name is Veronica Cook. I graduated from
Central Washington University in 1993 with a degree in Special
Education. I began teaching at Shorewood in 1994. I was
the 5th teacher in 5 years in this classroom. I build the
program that is now known as the T-Bird Crew, a program for
medically fragile students. In 2001, I earned my masters
degree from the University of Washington in Severe
Disabilities.
Besides my classroom, I am the
advisor of the Shorewood HIV/AIDS Peer education program. As
advisor of this group, I received the 2006 Ryan White Memorial
HIV/AIDS Educator of the Year.
In my spare time, I am the mother of Colin (born 2003). He
keeps me very busy. I also am a seating host for the Seattle
Mariners (It pays for my addiction to the Mariners), a
Representative for the Shoreline Education Association, teacher
representative on the WASL Accommodations Committee for OSPI and do
private consulting for individuals with
disabilities.
