Community Resources

  • Center for Human Services - The Center for Human Services has two different family center sites in the Shoreline area, one at Ballinger Homes and one in the center of Shoreline. Please click here for more information on after school and community activities at CHS.
  • King County Library System - Please click here to access King County's libraries. King County houses an extensive collection of books for children and families, including many books in a variety of languages. You can also access Book Flix FREE with an active KCLS library card number. This link takes you directly to the KCLS Kids Page.

Instruction For ELLs

  • Center for Research on Education, Diversity & Excellence - The CREDE Center in California supports both research and practice to support English language learners in the K-12 classroom.
  • Digital Learning Commons - The DLC is a rich resource for Shoreline teachers in support of English language learners. Nettrekker and SIRS are both research databases that allow teachers and students to look for information by readability levels. Nettrekkker also have an image search feature to support vocabulary development for ELLs. Many of the sites in the DLC allow students to research in Spanish.
  • Everything ESL.Net - Everything ESL.net is a great resource for classroom teachers with English learners.
  • Project GLAD - Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) is an instructional framework for classroom teachers to employ to support both content and language learning for ELLs and all students.
  • San Antonio Independent School District's ELL Webpage - Visit this website for a variety of resources and information regarding instruction for English language learners.
  • SIOP Institute - The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is an instructional framework that allows teachers to develop students' English language proficiency while teaching academic content.
  • Teaching Tolerance - The Teaching Tolerance website has a wealth of resources for culturally responsive teaching.

  • Puget Sound ELL Consortium Website - This website provides local and state level resources for teachers of English language learners.
  • Washington State Migrant/Bilingual Education Office - OSPI's Office of Migrant and Bilingual Education has various links and resources for families and educators of bilingual students in the state of Washington.
