Shoreline Writing
Institute
2008-2009
Co-Instructors: Susan Starbuck
and Megan Chamberlin
This 10-credit course has been created through a
partnership between the UW Puget Sound Writing Project’s
Teacher Leadership Institute and the Shoreline School District.
This is the second year that Shoreline School District has
supported an innovative PSWP institute. Instead of a summer
program, the course is imbedded within the school year.
This course balances participants’ development as writers
with their growth as teachers of writing. Building a
collaborative community of writers is the best way to strike this
balance. And, the community of teachers is the primary source
of instruction: teachers teaching teachers. Another balance
we aim for in the class is writing as a process and writing to
create a finished product.
