Professional Development information for SESPA.
SESPA Professional Development Stipends are back for the 2009-2010 school year. Twelve hours of professional stipend pay is available to those SESPA employees who work more than three hours in a SESPA position.  Those working three hours or less in a SESPA position are eligible for six hours of professional stipend pay. Contract language states:
Our professional development program is a cooperatively planned program designed to assist employees in a) increasing skills; b) improving performance; and c) enhancing other related areas consistent with job requirements. Keeping in mind our contractual commitment to offer a “flexible range of professional development activities outside of the employee’s regular work day or work year professional development activities eligible for a stipend can be grouped into two categories – those that are “pre-approved” and need no paperwork, and those that need approval of the building and professional development administrator.

Professional Development Activities that are Pre-Approved:
·   Classes or workshops offered by Shoreline Professional Development
·   Select online courses through risk management (See DOCUMENTS to download list)
·   WEA- conference  (All classes EXCEPT: Social Networking, ESP Retirement, Relaxation Techniques, and More Month Than Money?)

The following activities may be eligible for a professional development stipend, provided the SESPA employee completes the Professional Development Approval Form  and it is approved by building and professional development administrators and SESPA leadership:
·   Classes or workshops offered by the Educational Service District (ESD), community colleges, community organizations, WEA, the Uniserv Council, and other providers.
·   Job-alike meetings.
·   Online courses through providers other than the courses pre-approved by risk management.
·   Audio-visual courses or other materials in the Shoreline Professional Library.
·   Building-based training and training meetings offered on a non-work day or outside of the employee’s regular work hours or work year.

In order to ensure that the professional development activity of choice is approved and eligible for pay, please fill out the SESPA Professional Development Approval Form (see DOCUMENTS to download) before completing the activity.  In addition, we request that employees use the attached timesheet for recording their professional training stipends.  Requests should be submitted in three or six hour blocks.  Requests can be submitted at any time of the year and must be received by the Professional Development office no later than June 15.
