The Shoreline School District is pleased to launch its 2012 Secondary Summer School program. Our goal is to offer students stellar opportunities to work with teachers committed to their success.  Please go to the Documents page to print out the necessary paperwork for registration. 2012 course offerings include:

Open Enrollment Courses: Tuition for all Open Enrollment classes is $275.00.
  • Algebra I and Geometry  math classes for students to either retrieve credit or to improve their grade.
  • Algebra II math class for students to retrieve credit, improve their grade or review before fall enrollment (Algebra II Prep).
  • Advanced College Application Process (ACAP) for students entering their senior year in high school.  ACAP is taught by experts in the college admission process and includes field trips, assistance with financial aid and scholarships, professional review of applications and admissions essays, and help with finding the right school.
  • Math Concepts, review of math concepts for 7th grade.  Students entering grades 7, 8 or 9 are encouraged to take this class if they need to strengthen math fundamentals, skills and concepts.
  • CMP 2, the standard 7th grade math curriculum in Shoreline  This course is an option for students who took CMP 2 but did not successfully complete it.  (For example, a student who earned a D or F in CMP2, and realizes they should review it in the summer to be successful in CMP3).
  • CMP 3, the standard 8th grade math curriculum in Shoreline, for highly motivated students entering 8th grade who would like the opportunity to 'jump' over 8th grade math and take Algebra I (9th grade math) in 8th grade.  Current 6th grade students coming from the Highly Capable program are encouraged to take this class to  'jump' over 8th grade math and take Algebra I (9th grade math) in 7th grade  Students earning at least an 80% average in the course may register for Algebra I math in the fall.
    • (Students who did not successfully complete CMP 3 as an 8th grader should enroll in Pre-Algebra; see below).

Special Program Courses, subsidized by the Shoreline School District.  Tuition is $25.00.  Students must meet specific qualification for these courses:

  • Level 1 and Level 2 courses for English Language Learners to continue their language development.  These courses are open to students entering grades 7-12.  Students will be grouped by language ability.
  • Summer Transition Enrichment Program (STEP) for students who will enter high school in the fall.  STEP equips students with a head start on mastering study skills, problem-solving strategies, tips for success and an early opportunity to learn their high school's systems.
  • Reading Support, using the Read180 curriculum for students who need assistance increasing their reading level to succeed in high school (please view the Elementary Summer School website for information about reading support for elementary and middle school students).
  • Pre Algebra for students who did not meet standard on the 7th grade Math MSP and need extra support prior to taking Algebra I in 9th grade.  This class is specifically designed for students who tested below grade level and/or earned below a C in their 8th grade math class, and is required for all Shoreline 8th graders who earned an F in one or more trimesters of 8th grade math.
  • Algebra II Prep for students to preview Algebra II concepts in readiness for a full year of Algebra II in the coming school year. (For students not at standard in Algebra I).

Online Credit Recovery Courses, using the Apex Learning curriculum, are available to Shoreline School District students who need to recover credits toward graduation.  More than 37 online opportunities are available.  Tuition is $100 per class.

Algebra I and Geometry Acceleration: Shoreline Virtual Learning Classes

(Enrollment Open to Students in the Shoreline School District)

The State Legislature has made significant changes to Washington’s math graduation requirements. Effective with the graduating class of 2013, students must earn 1.0 credit in Algebra I, 1.0 credit in Geometry, and 1.0 credit in Algebra II to earn a diploma. To meet these new requirements, students may take Geometry concurrently with Algebra I or Algebra II.  Students may begin this process in summer by taking the first semester online through Shoreline Virtual Learning.  Very focused students may take both semester 1 and 2 during summer session.

For Example:  Students wishing to accelerate Algebra I:

Option 1.

Summer:     Shoreline Virtual Learning Algebra I, semester 1

Fall:            Shoreline Virtual Learning Algebra I, semester 2 + Geometry, semester 1

in a Shorecrest or Shorewood class.

Spring:        Geometry, semester 2 in a Shorecrest or Shorewood class.

Option 2.

Summer:     Shoreline Virtual Learning Algebra I, semester 1

Fall:            Geometry, semester 1 in a Shorecrest or Shorewood class.

Spring:        Geometry, semester 2 in a  Shorecrest or Shorewood class +

Algebra I, semester 2 in a Shorecrest or Shorewood class.

Option 3.

Summer:              Shoreline Virtual Learning Algebra I, semester 1 & semester 2

Fall/Spring:           Geometry, semester 1 + semester 2 in a Shorecrest or Shorewood class.

Students wishing to accelerate their math sequence in summer school should first meet with their counselor and principal to get approval.  Once approval is granted, students register with Shoreline Virtual Learning at the Shoreline Center Instruction office.  Students earn 0.5 math credit for each semester completed.  Students will need to take the End of Course exam for Algebra I or Geometry in January or June.  Tuition: $275.00
