Dear Syre Families--

Autumn is here!  Syre had a great September with your student learning and activities. My thanks to our families and staff for helping all of our students be successful.

Thanks, also, to Dawn, Hanne and our PTA volunteers for an outstanding Recess Walk-A-Thon recently.  Great weather and active participation contributed to a successful fundraising and fitness effort by all kids and adults involved, and we’re very grateful for your support of this PTA Recess activity.

Recess is an important time for students to play and exercise.  As a reminder, we do outside recess in all kinds of weather, even on rainy days, so please make sure your kids come to school prepared for recess in all types of weather.  We rarely have indoor recess, and we appreciate your support.

Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade families recently received WASL scores.  Syre’s scores continue to stay very strong, a true tribute to our kids, our families, and our committed staff.  If you have questions about your child’s individual scores, feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher, or visit www.k12.wa.us/assessment/WASL/.  If you need a copy of your child’s WASL report, call Laura at Syre and she will gladly mail you a copy.

Included with this newsletter is our updated Positive Behavior Guidelines.  My thanks to several Syre teachers who have been working for more than three years to improve our consistency and approach to behavior and discipline.  Please review this info with your child(ren) as needed and file it away with your “Syre Stuff.”  Thanks.

Our staff continues to work very hard to provide the best experience for your children—please be sure to say thanks when you get a chance.  Don’t forget our goal of 100% PTA Family Membership!  Happy October and we look forward to seeing you around school.

David Tadlock, Principal
