Syre Elementary
Math Olympiad

Syre's award winning Math Olympiad program will be held on Wednesday mornings from 8:00-9:00 am beginning on October 15, 2014.  All 4th, 5th and 6th graders who like solving math problems and learning more about math are invited to join.  There is a commitment of one hour per week in the morning plus about an hour's worth of weekly homework.  Those on patrol will be allowed to leave early so they can get to their post on time.

Each week we will prepare the kids for a monthly individual math quiz.  Each quiz involves 5 problems and students will be given about 25 minutes to solve them.  This is all in preparation for the Shoreline Math Olympiad competition which will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015For those NOT interested in competing, but want to be part of the math program, you are encouraged to come also...the competition is optional, though highly recommended and lots of fun!

The fee for Math Olympiad is $30.  This will cover our costs and a T-shirt.  Please make your check payable to "Syre PTA" and return it along with the registration form no later than October 8th. Scholarships are available upon request.  A printable registration form can be found under the "Documents" section of this webpage.

All parents and students, please meet us in the cafeteria at 7:40am on Wednesday, October 15th for a brief introductory meeting, doughnuts and milk, followed by the first lesson.

Children have found Math Olympiad to be very challenging and fun and are encouraged to work with their family and friends on the homework assignments.  We are very excited about the new curriculum and hope you will join us this year!
