Dear Syre Families,
I have enjoyed working with your students in P.E. this year.
They have enjoyed themselves and have worked hard.
All grade levels focused on improving their cardiorespiratory
endurance, muscle strength, and muscle endurance. Activities
included fitness and tag games, numerous climbing wall activities,
Quidditch, Capture the Flag, The Human Obstacle Course, bocce ball,
circus stations and The Pacer endurance test.
In addition, grades 3-6 completed the Spring Healthy Fitness
assessment, a repeat of the assessment performed last fall.
The assessment uses health standards instead of traditional
percentile rankings, so students are not compared to each other,
only to the standard. The purpose of the curriculum is to educate
students on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and promote
lifelong fitness.
The students are assessed in P.E. in three areas. The first is
skill development, where I evaluate their mastery of skills
presented in class. The second area is collaboration and
cooperation, where I am looking for appropriate teamwork, following
directions, and behavior in class. The final area is effort, where
I evaluate the amount of effort put forth in each P.E. class.
Participation, effort, and attitude are the most important factors
for success in P.E.
Exercise, eat healthy, smile and have a wonderful summer break,
Patrick Broderhausen
